The world’s best airport restaurant?
I’ve had pretty decent Sushi in Washington Dulles, there is Gordon Ramsey in Heathrow Terminal 5, and it’s always fun to buy chocolate in Zurich Kloten.
Nothing, however, comes close to the culinary experience available in Munich airport, Terminal 1.
The “Airbräu” is a bit of a hybrid of a beer garden, a pub, and a restaurant. They do really well in bringing a whiff of Bavarian savoir-vivre into the airport, and they provide endless delight to the passing traveller who does not otherwise have access to genuine Bavarian fare where they live. There is no other airport restaurant that I actually look forward going to at all – with the exception of Airbräu in Munich.
Where else could you have a hearty pre-boarding snack consisting of smoked meat, liverwurst, bell pepper bacon, Bavarian meat loaf, dried sausage and beer cheese, all served with bread and of course washed down with a variety of locally brewed beers.
Or, treat yourself to a crispy pork lard served with traditional farmers bread. Ideal to put yourself into a food coma during any upcoming longhaul flight. Bad for your waistline, but really yummy.
I genuinely do not know of anything comparable, in any other airport in the world. If you do, email me: swen.lorenz@undervalued-shares.com.
